– Jeffrey R Lemus, Controller & Business Tax Specialist

Jeffrey R. Lemus is a business professional, tax specialist, and entrepreneur with hands-on experience managing a six-figure business. Known for analytical precision and operational leadership, he combines academic training with real-world execution in accounting, compliance, and cost management.

Early Childhood

Jeffrey was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and comes from Salvadoran descent (First generation American) In his early childhood he lived in Everett, Massachusetts where he enjoyed playing little league and earned a red belt in Martial Arts at the age of 10. The Lemus Family then moved approximately 3,000 miles away to Reno, Nevada.

Adolescence

Jeffrey attended North Valleys High School and earned Newcomer of the Year (2007) his junior year of high school and the Blair Roman Award of Excellence (2008) awarded to the most well-rounded student-athlete on the Varsity 4A Football Team. His senior year at age 17, he tied the Barbell Squat Record at 365 lbs. He also wrestled his freshman year of high school at the 171 weight class and placed second in the 2005 JV Tournament his only year of wrestling.

First Business Endeavor

Jeffrey’s parents purchased the small business in 2009, a restaurant in the limited food service industry (Speedy Burritos in Reno, NV). To this day, the restaurant is still operating and is serving Northern Nevada with great Mexican Food. Jeffrey is the Controller of the entity and part owner. He manages operations including accounting, IT, marketing design, website administration, SEO, and keeping compliance with the IRSHe operates a cash flow of approximately $800K and the business continues to grow organically.

University of Nevada, Reno

Jeffrey went to the University of Nevada and graduated in 2016 with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Management (3.33 GPA in Business School) and a minor in Spanish. Jeffrey explored multiple disciplines in business before selecting management for its versatility and strategic value. He settled for the well-rounded and highly beneficial, Management degree. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and participated in intramural flag football as an undergrad. This experience sparked a deeper interest in professional development and advanced study.

Federal Taxation

With extended experience managing and building the small business (Speedy Burritos) in his late 20’s and early 30’s, Jeffrey realized that he had a strong interest in taxation.  From early 2024 to early 2026, he studied federal taxation rigorously and went on to pass all three exams and complete the requirements to achieve his first certification, as a Licensed Enrolled Agent (EA). Tax law was the spark that led Jeffrey to dive deeper into the vast professional world of accounting. 

Cost Management

Jeffrey is set to begin studying for the CMA exam in March of 2026. He realized that Cost Management is a powerful and necessary tool to increase profit margins and optimize costs, internally and in real time. He intends on completing the first part of the CMA exam in the Summer of 2026.

CPA Track Student @ University of Nevada, Reno

Jeffrey is currently completing coursework to qualify for the CPA examination, with an expected completion date for upper-division accounting requirements in Spring 2028. As of March 2026, he has completed approximately 30% of the prerequisite coursework required by the Nevada State Board of Accountancy. He remains committed to advancing his expertise in accounting and taxation while mentoring emerging professionals and leading by example as a University of Nevada alumnus with real-world business experience.
